How to use it in class
A few children per lesson. Don't test the whole class at once: check three or four children while the others play a game. One sheet per child lasts the whole unit.
Climb the ladder, stop at the first gap. Say a word and ask the child to point to it on the poster; then to repeat it; then show a picture and wait for them to name it. Where they first get stuck is what to teach next.
Use “almost”, then check again. ◐ means “almost” — said with help, or with a sound missing. Repeat the check at the end of the unit in another colour, and parents see the progress on one sheet.
Questions teachers ask
How much does it cost?
Nothing. All 55 topics open and print free, with no sign-up.
What age is it for?
Ages 3–11. Pick the age band and the columns follow. The words in every topic are beginner level; the age range comes from what the sheet asks of the child.
How does the checklist work?
Pick the child's age band — 3–4, 4–6, 7–8 or 9–11 — and the sheet prints the columns that fit it, from “Can point” to “Can write”. Check three or four children a lesson while the rest play.
