English listening practice, A2 to B2

Fifteen original dialogues and short talks from everyday life: a voicemail, a weather report, a job interview, a museum audio guide. Each one comes with a gist question, five detail questions, a dictation, the transcript and a speaking task.

The voice is your device's built-in speech synthesis, not a recording, so it sounds different on every phone, tablet and computer. Dialogues use two voices where the device has them. The transcript is always one tap away.

How to use a script in class

  1. Read the gist question together, then play the whole script once.
  2. Play it again for the five detail questions. Slow it down or replay single lines if the class needs it.
  3. Do the dictation: students listen to each sentence and type the missing words.
  4. Open the transcript and look at the highlighted phrases, then move on to the speaking task.
