Are the teams really random?
Yes — the list is shuffled first and then dealt out one name at a time, so the teams never differ in size by more than one child.
Can I make pairs instead of groups?
Set the number of teams to half your class: twelve names split into six teams gives you six pairs, with a three if the number is odd.
