Model dialogue
One good version. Read it after the pairs have tried, not before.

- A
- Hi, I'm Kemi. I don't think we've met.
- B
- Hi Kemi, I'm Daniel. So how do you know Jo?
- A
- We're in the same Spanish class. What about you?
- B
- We've been friends since school. Are you from around here?
- A
- No, I moved here in the summer, so I'm still getting to know people.
- B
- Oh, nice! What do you like doing at the weekend?
- A
- Mostly music, actually. I'm learning the guitar, but I haven't got anyone to play with.
- B
- No way! I play bass in a little band, and we're looking for a guitarist.
- A
- Really? I'm not very good yet, though.
- B
- Don't worry, we just play for fun. Listen, I've got to leave at eight to catch a train — shall we swap numbers?
- A
- Definitely. Here, put yours in my phone.
- B
- Great. We practise on Wednesdays — come along next week! It was really nice to meet you.
Extension for stronger students
A third guest joins the conversation halfway through: A or B must introduce them to the other person and find a topic all three can talk about, before B politely makes an excuse to leave.
