12 camera-on games: no props, no screen share, just faces

Screen share breaks, files refuse to open, the internet hiccups — and thirty seconds of dead air online feels like a minute in class. Camera games are your safety net: they start instantly, work with one student or twelve, and get bodies moving, which is exactly what screen-bound kids need.
Move-and-say games
- Simon Says — the eternal classic; let students take the Simon role to practise imperatives.
- Touch something… — 'Touch something blue / big / cold!' Kids race off-camera and back.
- Action chains — 'Jump three times, then touch your nose, then say hello!' Grow the chain each round.
- Slow-motion race — everyone mimes running in slow motion; the most dramatic runner picks the next verb.
Guessing games
- Mime the animal — one child is a cat, a snake, an elephant; the rest guess in English.
- What's in my hand? — hold a fist near the camera and give clues: 'It is small. You write with it.'
- Sound effects — play a sound with your mouth (knock, meow, brr) and kids name the thing.
- Twenty fingers — think of a word from today's topic; kids ask yes/no questions, you count them on fingers.
Calm-down camera games
End the lesson with the volume down, not up. These also work mid-lesson when energy tips into chaos.
- Sleeping lions — everyone 'sleeps'; you whisper words, kids only open one eye when they hear the magic word.
- Whisper echo — you whisper a word, the class whispers it back. Quietest round of the day.
- Draw in the air — trace a letter or number in the air with a finger; kids guess and copy.
- Quiet Meter finale — open our sleeping-bear noise meter and see if the class can keep him asleep for one minute.
