Question of the day

Free · no ads · no accounts

One question at the start of the lesson, the same for the whole class and answered by everyone: it switches heads into English and gives every child a turn before anything else happens. This page picks the question for you each day, for three age groups. Under it sits a sentence starter for the child who needs the first words, and two follow-ups for the one who stopped after a single word.

💬 Question of the day · Ages 6–8

Monday, 19 October

If you invented a new ice cream, what would be in it?

✏️ Sentence starter

For the child who needs the first words

My ice cream would have ….

➕ Follow-up questions

For the child who answered in one word

  1. What would it be called?
  2. Who would get the first one?

A new question every midnight, for every age group — same address, nothing to set up.

Every question in the rotation

The tool goes through these in this order, one a day for each age group, and starts again at the top after the last — so tomorrow's question is always the one after today's. How to run the question-of-the-day ritual →

How teachers use it

  • Morning circle: read the question aloud, give thirty seconds of thinking time, then go round the class.
  • Online lessons: share the screen as the call opens, so early arrivals already have something to answer.
  • Mixed ages: switch the age group for each child, and one ritual works for the whole group.

Questions teachers ask

Is it the same question for everyone?

Yes: on any given day, everyone who opens the page with the same age group sees the same question. It is picked from the date on your device, so it changes at your midnight, not the server's.

How many questions are there?

Thirty for each age group, ninety in all, taken from the site's speaking card decks. The order is fixed, and a question only comes back after all thirty in its group have had their day.

What are the sentence starter and the follow-ups for?

The starter (“My favourite colour is ___.”) lets a shy or beginner child answer in a full sentence by filling one gap. The follow-ups keep the talk going when a child answers in one word: ask one, listen, then ask the other.
