How to play

  1. Every card starts face down in the garden.

  2. Turn one over and it blooms into a picture.

  3. Turn a second one and look for its twin — the word that says it.

  4. A pair stays in flower, and a butterfly comes to say so.

  5. Play it alone, or student against teacher.

Variations

Three ways to play it differently once the class knows the rules.

  1. Student against teacher

Switch to two players and take turns with the child — the garden shows whose go it is.

  2. Say it to score it

A pair only counts if the child says the word out loud as it blooms.

  3. Pictures only

For children who can't read yet, deal picture-to-picture pairs; move on to words when they are ready.
