Food games
Food is the topic that turns into speaking on its own. Every word comes with a preference attached — I like it, I don't like it, it's my favourite — so the vocabulary round becomes a conversation without you steering it there.
It also role-plays beautifully: a shop, a café, a picnic. Print the flashcards, put them on a desk, and the desk is a market stall.

How do I turn a food topic into speaking practice?
Attach an opinion to every card. Not 'what is it' but 'do you like it, and why' — and let a wrong answer be impossible. Preferences are the safest sentences a child can risk.
Is the sweets pack a bad example for a healthy-eating lesson?
Use it as the other half of the argument. Fruits and vegetables on one side, sweets on the other, and children sorting them — the sorting is the lesson, and it needs both piles.
What is the easiest food role-play to set up?
A shop with printed cards as goods and dice as money. Two lines — 'Can I have…?' and 'Here you are' — and the same three-minute scene runs happily for a whole term.
