Word Duel · 2 teams
Two teams. One screen. Every word counts.
Pictures, definitions, synonyms and opposites. Both teams get the same number of questions of the same kinds.
Teams answer in turns: A, B, B, A, A, B… so neither team always goes first.
Turn them off for a student using a screen reader: the picture can't be described without giving the answer away.
If a team gets it wrong, the other team can steal the point.
Teacher's guide
Setting up (1 minute)
- Split the class into two teams and type their names. Choose A1–A2 (word-bank pictures and definitions), B1 (definitions, synonyms and opposites) or a mix.
- Take turns is the calm version: questions come in pairs of the same kind, and the order runs A–B, B–A, so neither team always goes first.
- Buzzer race is the loud version: team A buzzes with the A key, team B with the L key (or tap the big buttons). A wrong answer hands the question to the other team.
Keeping it fair
- Both teams get exactly the same number of questions, of the same kinds.
- With steals on, a wrong answer gives the other team one chance to take the point.
- A tie at the end goes to sudden death (up to five rounds): in turns mode one question each, no steals, until one team is right and the other wrong; in buzzer mode one question, first right answer wins.
Variations
- Make one student per team the speaker — the team must agree before the speaker answers.
- After the duel, ask each team to write sentences with three words they got wrong.
