Minimal pairs · f · v

fan or van

F is a whisper; v is the same mouth with the voice switched on. Arabic has f but no v, so van turns into fan and very into fairy.

How to teach the mouth

One mouth, one switch: top teeth on the bottom lip for both. Put a hand on the throat — f is silent there, v buzzes like a bee. Start a long ffff, then switch the voice on mid-sound without moving: ffffvvvv.
