How to play

  1. A picture hangs over the forge and its letters come out jumbled.

  2. Strike the letters onto the anvil in the right order.

  3. A wrong letter only flashes — nothing is lost, try the next one.

  4. The finished word quenches in steam, and the streak climbs.

  5. Send a hard word back in the fire and take the next one.

Variations

Three ways to play it differently once the class knows the rules.

  1. Spell it aloud

The class says each letter out loud as it hits the anvil, then reads the whole word together.

  2. Name it first

Before anyone taps, the class says the word for the picture — then builds it letter by letter.

  3. One letter each

A different child strikes each letter, so a five-letter word needs five volunteers.
