Memory is the rare game every child already knows — which means zero explanation cost forever. The upgrade path isn't harder rules; it's redefining what matches. Change the pair, change the lesson.
Nine pair types
- Picture+picture (age 3+) — pure matching, vocabulary said aloud on every flip.
- Picture+word (5+) — first reading, disguised. Our Memory has this mode built in.
- Word+word (7+) — pure reading recall.
- Opposites — big/small, hot/cold: adjective pairs that stick as couples.
- Singular/plural — cat/cats, box/boxes: the -s and -es drill nobody notices.
- Verb/verb-ing — run/running: gerund spelling by osmosis.
- Question/answer — 'How old are you?' ↔ 'I'm seven.' Dialogue pairs.
- EN/RU — translation pairs for bilingual review weeks.
- Emoji/emotion word — 😊/happy: feelings vocabulary with faces.
Keep the ritual, rotate the deck
