10 brain breaks that work in a Zoom window

Online brain breaks fail for one boring reason: 'stand up and move' collides with desks, cables and small rooms. The fix is breaks designed for one square metre and a visible upper body — here are ten that fit any bedroom-classroom.
The ten
- Chair dance — bottom stays, everything else parties. 30 seconds of music.
- Wall push — 'Push the wall! Is it moving? PUSH!' Ten seconds of full-body effort, huge decompression.
- Animal stretches — cat arch, giraffe neck, starfish arms: vocabulary and movement in one.
- Shake countdown — shake right hand 8-7-6…, left hand, right leg, left leg, whole body on 1.
- Invisible jump rope — ten jumps with a rope that isn't there. Cardio, zero equipment, pure theatre.
- Robot recharge — slow-motion power-down to the desk… then POWER UP with a beep-boop stretch.
- Weather workout — 'Rain!' (drum fingers), 'Wind!' (sway arms), 'Storm!' (stomp), 'Sun!' (freeze and smile).
- Cross crawls — right elbow to left knee, alternate ×10. The classic mid-lesson brain restart.
- Balloon breath — inflate an imaginary balloon in your tummy, release it with a hiss. Calm-down variant.
- Dance party protocol — 30 seconds music, freeze on stop, straight into the next activity while cheeks are pink.
⭐ Take this with you
One square metre is enough. Two 30-second breaks per online lesson — one wild, one calming — and the wiggles work for you instead of against you.
